ISLAND FALLS – Roland “Pokey” Webb, 87, formerly of Portland, a lifelong resident of Island Falls, passed away May 28, 2006, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Island Falls, a son of Vinal L. and Frances (Clanfield) Webb. He attended Island Falls High School where he was an active member of their basketball team. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served overseas during World War II. During his enlistment, he met and married Hope Harper and upon returning home, they started a family. Throughout his life, he worked in many various bookkeeping capacities, serving many years as town manager for the town of Island Falls and most recently for the town of Sherman. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge in Island Falls and was a life member of the VFW, King-Mitchell Post No. 7529, in Island Falls, where he served many years as quartermaster. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela W. Couture; a grandson, Brian J. Webb; a son-in-law, Lindy T. Bouchard; brothers, Donald and Ronald; and sisters, Doris Leach and Rhoda Tingley. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hope Harper Webb of Island Falls; a son, V. Jeffrey of Readfield; a daughter, Marcia L. Bouchard of Portland; a sister, Dorothy Gallagher of Wells; four grandchildren, five great-grand-children and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. June 24, at Island Falls Cemetery.
