CARIBOU and FORT FAIRFIELD – Ronald Cyr, 73, died Monday evening, July 28, 2008, at a Caribou health care facility, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 6, 1934, in Cyr Plantation, the son of Andrew and Elise (Laferriere) Cyr. He attended Fort Fairfield schools and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he received the National Defense Service Metal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. In addition to his parents, Ronald was predeceased by two brothers, Vernon and Wilbert Cyr; and three sisters, Violet Levesque, Rachel Schwartz and Sharon Cyr. He is survived by one sister, Norma Tutty of Crystal River, Fla.; one very dear sister-in-law, Ina Cyr of Easton; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. A graveside service of committal with full military honors will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou, with the Rev. Clement D. Thibodeau officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Cyr to the Maine Veterans’ Home, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736.
