PORTAGE LAKE – Ronald W. Coty, 66, passed away peacefully Feb. 2, 2007, at a Bangor hos-pital after a long, hard struggle with emphysema. He was born June 12, 1940, in Ashland, the son of William and June (Johnson) Coty. As a young man, Ronald worked for the A & P grocery stores in Ashland and Presque Isle, interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving two years. In 1976 he opened Coty’s Hardware, Inc., in Ashland, a business he owned and operated for more than 20 years until his retirement. Ron was always known as a very stubborn man and his final hurdle was no exception. His strength and determination were exceptional, right up until his death. Ron was a one of a kind person who will never be forgotten by the many who truly knew him. He touched many lives and made many true and lasting friendships. Ron was a member of the Masonic Pioneer Lodge No. 72, AF & AM of Ashland, and a former member of the Ashland Rotary Club. He was a member of the Union Congregational Church, Ashland, as well as a past deacon and board member. In addition to his father of Ashland, he is survived by two daughters, Susie Coty Beaulieu of Presque Isle, who was by his side throughout his illness, and Vicki Saucier and her husband, Jeff, of Simsbury, Conn.; four grandchildren, Paige Leigha Beaulieu, who was Grampy’s “little honey,” of Presque Isle, Laura, Chris and Jon Saucier of Simsbury, Conn.; one brother, Gordon Coty Sr. and Ruthene Coty of Ashland; nieces, Glori Coty of Ashland and Holly Coty of Caribou; nephew, Gordon Coty Jr. of Caribou. He was predeceased by his mother, June Coty November 2003; and by a son-in-law, Mark Beaulieu October 1996. He will be sadly missed by special friends, George “Chick” Sullivan, Jim and Vicky Kelley, Paul and Robin Wheeler, Harvey, Pat and Danny Plourde. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland, and also 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at Union Congregational Church of Ashland. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Spring interment will be at Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery.
