MATTAWAMKEAG – Rowena G. Colby, 89, died April 12, 2007, at her home. She was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Caswell, the daughter of Omer John and Sephronia (Iott) Colby. Rowena and her late husband, Leon Colby, owned and operated Colby’s Flying A Garage and Filling Station, Lincoln, for a number of years. She later worked for the school department, driving kids to school. Rowena enjoyed her children, grandchildren and many friends. She is survived by one son, John Colby and his wife, Norma, of Mattawamkeag; one stepdaughter, Shirley Kocis and her husband, Gene, of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Patricia Knott of Haynes City, Fla., and Hilda Pettengill of Slocum, R.I.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Dana Leon Colby; one granddaughter and one great-grandson. At her request, there will be no services.
