PRESQUE ISLE – Russell B. Black, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grand-father, died Feb. 17, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 23, 1919, in Bridgewater, the son of Byron and Effie (Kingsbury) Black. He served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II. He was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School in 1936 and Bryant College in Providence, R.I. in 1939. Mr. Black had been employed as an accountant with the J.S. Williamson Company in Presque Isle from 1940 to 1960. In 1960, he formed the R B Black Company and practiced public accounting until his retirement in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Gardiner) Black of Presque Isle; two daughters, and their husbands, Linda and James McNamara of Brewer, Sue-Ann and William Buckley of Bangor; granddaughters, Elizabeth Bunker and her husband, Timothy, of Bucksport, Lynn McNamara of Brewer, Carmen Buckley Reynolds and her husband, Paul, of Keene N.H.; grandsons, John Buckley and his wife, Laurie, of Portland and David R. McNamara of Searsport; great-grandsons, Dylan and Daniel Bunker of Bucksport and Patrick Buckley Reynolds of Keene, N.H.; one sister, Jean Chase of Sebring, Fla.; a niece and nephew and several cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Alfred Irving celebrant. Spring interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Russ was a man of strong principles and impeccable character who valued his family above all else. His generosity and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. He especially enjoyed, his visits to the coast, good books, walks at Mantle Lake with Lillian and fine music especially Cole Porter tunes. The love he shared will remain with us always.
