HOULTON – Ruth Edwina Mooers, 82, died Oct. 29, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born July 8, 1923, in Houlton, the daughter of Albert E. Jr. and Bessie Ann (Burtt) Mooers. Ruth was a member of the Church of the Good Shepard, Episcopal. She was a graduate of Westbrook Junior College, Class of 1942, with a degree in music. Part of her music career included being a hostess and singer at the Officer’s Club at the Naval Station in Newport, R.I., a choral director for school systems in Houlton, Hodgdon and Limestone. She was well-known for her creative ways of teaching music and bringing the best out in all students. Ruth spent several summers giving riding lessons at Camp Sunningdale in Sebago Lake and also taught Equestrian riding to many people in the Houlton area. She will be remembered for her love of horses and her enjoyment in seeing her students become accomplished riders. Students came from many eastern states to attend her riding camp at “Camp Little Ponderosa.” There are lots of memories of trips to Cary Lake, stacking hay for winter, riding through meadows and grooming the horses. Ruth is survived by several special nieces and nephews, Jane Harburger of Brewer, Jane Fournier, Susan Cone, David Mooers, Andrew Mooers and Perry Mooers, all of Houlton, Randy Mooers of Ludlow, Calvin Mooers of Hodgdon, Albert E. Mooers IV and Stephen Mooers, both of Bangor, Jonathan Mooers of Massachusetts, Brian Mooers of Oregon; several great-nieces and great-nephews, a special friend, Fred Rideout, of Houlton. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, John, Frederick and Albert “Bud” Mooers III. Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of departure at 1 p.m. to the Church of the Good Shepard, Episcopal, where service will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Leslie Nesin officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. In remembrance of Ruth E.
