HOWLAND and HERMON – Ruth W. Christie, 90, wife of the late Arthur W. Christie, died May 14, 2005, at the home of her daughter in Hermon. She was born Jan. 18, 1915, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of John Howard and Elizabeth (Governor) Waldron. Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star in Philadelphia and served as worthy matron in 1946. After moving to Maine in 1955, she was an active member of Coldbrook Grange and was a leader in the 4-H group, in Medford, and volunteered as the church secretary for the First Methodist Church of Howland. She was employed for many years as secretary and bookkeeper in the Superintendent’s office of SAD No. 31. After retirement, she remained active in her church and community. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Brian Bowdoin of Hermon, and their son, Scott and his wife, Yukiko Bowdoin and their sons, Gene and Kent Bowdoin, of Massachusetts; and daughter, Paige and her husband, Rodney Lane and their sons, Brennan and Benjamin Lane, of Bangor; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy (Christie) and Mark LaCasse of Brewer, and their son, Shawn “Wesley” Stover and his wife, Carla and their daughter, Madeliene Stover, of Connecticut; daughter, Destiny and her husband, Daniel Cook and their sons, Seth and Jacob Cook, of Gorham; son, Jaison Stover of Fort Kent and his children, Dylan and Harley Stover; and son, Adam LaCasse and his daughter, Cassandra LaCasse, of Bangor; and a very special friend, Abigail Hallett of Howland. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18. The time will be announced in the Tuesday edition of the Bangor Daily News. Gifts in Ruth’s memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, following the services.
