BEALS – Ruth L. (Norton) Alley, “Grammie Ruth,” 90, passed away Oct. 18, 2005 at Sunrise Health Care Facility in Jonesport after a long illness. She was born July 23, 1915, in Jonesport, the daughter of the late Edwin and Jeannette (Peabody) Norton and at the age of four became a part of the family of the late Alonzo and Fannie Alley. Ruth will be fondly remembered for her wonderful cooking, meticulous housekeeping, and the loving care she provided for countless area children who knew her as Grammie. Throughout her life she attended the Beals Wesleyan Church. Ruth was an avid Jonesport-Beals basketball fan and looked forward to going to the “Ordietorium” every February. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Norton, of Eastport; daughter-in-law, Irena Alley of Jonesport; grandchildren, Debbie Kelley and husband, Darrell, Warren Alley and partner, Gordon Young, Mina Bowen and husband, Dana, Loudell Alley and husband, Mark, Arthur Green and wife, Amy, Rodney Green and wife, Stacy, Crystal Nichols and husband, Jamie, Tammy Norton and friend, Noel Torres and Amileigh Alley; great-grandchildren, Kenneth Kelley and fiance, Jenna Alley, Dana Jr. and Elizabeth Bowen, Marileigh Alley, Victoria Green, Clayton and Skye Green, Karissa and Jazel Nichols, Rianna Norton and Mykel Torres; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends, including Gloria Seavey and Donnie Alley Jr. She was predeceased by her husband, Solomon M. Alley; son, Harleigh A. Alley; a great-grandson, Timothy D. Alley; and three brothers, George, Lawrence and Riley Norton. At Ruth’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Greenwood Cemetery in Jonesport, officiated by her nephew, Rev. Mel Norton and assisted by Pastor George Woodward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunrise Health Care Facility, P.O. Box 507, Jonesport, ME 04649. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
