BANGOR – Hope St. Clair, 89, wife of the late Franklin R. St. Clair, died July 20, 2007, at a local hospital. She was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of Aaron Burr and Katherine Darling (Harriman) Godsoe. Hope was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she served as church secretary for 22 years; was director of the junior choir for many years; served as a Sunday school teacher; led confirmation classes and was a member of numerous church committees. She was an avid reader and loved books, nature, the outdoors, gardening and enjoyed animals. She was clever with handwork and liked crocheting and knitting. Surviving are one daughter, Katheryn “Katie” (St. Clair) White of Bangor; three grandchildren, Shanna Martin and her husband, Matthew, of Farmington, Tonya Barrett and her husband, Craig, of Washington state, and Thomas White and his wife, Heather, of New York; four great-grandchildren; one brother, William Homer Godsoe of Bangor; two nephews and one niece. In addition to her husband, Franklin, she was predeceased by her son, Richard St. Clair. A funeral service for the family only will be conducted Tuesday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, conducted by Hal Wheeler, a close friend and licensed lay minister of the Episcopal church.
