BANGOR – Sara E. Carrigan, 83, wife of the late Robert J. Carrigan Sr., died March 6, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. She was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the daughter of Frank and Pansy (Davis) Somers. Sara was involved in mental health issues and was a past president of The National Alliance of Mental Illness. During her life, she was very involved with raising her eight children. She was a very loving and caring person, and she received lots of love and attention by her caring family. She is survived by seven children, Patrick J. Carrigan and his wife, Barbara, of Manchester, Conn., Michael A. Carrigan and his wife, Jean, of Boyton Beach, Fla., William J. Carrigan of Franklin, N.C., Charles A. Carrigan, Jeanne M. Carrigan, Merry E. Carrigan and Gerald F. Carrigan, all of Brewer; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Susan, Jennifer, Joshua, Debra, Laurie, William Jr., Joseph, Daniel, Samantha, Charles and Robert; eight great-grandchildren, Skylah, Ethan, Delayne, Gabriel, Zackary, Jeremy, Ashley and Corey; and one great-great-grandchild. She leaves her sister, Lucille Green of Franklin, N.C.; two loving daughters-in-law, Helen Carrigan of Brewer and Marie Carrigan of Orrington; a sister-in-law, Natalie Somers of Debary, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert J. Carrigan; son, Robert J. Carrigan Jr.; grandson, Thomas J. Carrigan of Boynton Beach, Fla.; brother, Frank Somers of Debary, Fla.; stepfather, Carroll Cram of Casco; some nieces and nephews. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the caregivers and staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home for their kindness, compassion and caring support given to Sara during her illness. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, at a time to be announced by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer.
