HOULTON – Sheila Mailey Putnam, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at a Houlton hospital after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Marblehead, Mass., the daughter of Elizabeth (Redmond) and Richard Howe Mailey Sr. After graduating from Concord High School in 1952 and from Colby Junior, now Colby Sawyer College in 1954 as a medical secretary, she worked for an orthodontist in Boston and subsequently met her future husband, Willard A. Putnam of Houlton. Married in 1957 in Boston, they moved to Houlton to live and to raise a family. When the children entered school, she worked at Maher Real Estate as a licensed broker. She later worked at SAD 29 in the superintendent’s office. Her hobbies included raising and showing dogs, playing duplicate bridge, doing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, corresponding and traveling. After retirement, she enjoyed spending winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was predeceased by her husband in 1999; and infant daughter, Stephany Elizabeth in 1962. She is survived by three sons, Willard H. Putnam of Houlton, Mark J. Putnam and his wife, Susan, of Presque Isle and Christopher D. Putnam and his wife, Kerry, of Houlton; two brothers, Richard Mailey of North Hampton, N.H., and Jeffrey Mailey of West Chester, Pa.; surrogate sister, Elizabeth A. Stone of Houlton; two half brothers, Thomas Mailey of Gloucester, Mass., and Robert Mailey of Wilmington, Mass.; half sister, Mary Jane Boughn of Rockport, Mass.; 13 grandchildren, Brianne Gaige and her fiance, Mark Droscoski of Captain Cook, Hawaii, Stephany Siska and her husband, Matthew, of Holliston, Mass., Kara Heath and Chelsea Putnam, both of Oakfield, Jennifer Shaw of South Portland, Jami Shaw and her fiance, Travis Blair, of Ashland, Christopher M. Putnam and his wife, Harly, of Chapman, Travis Shaw of Presque Isle, Nicholas and Jasmine Putnam, both of Boothbay Harbor and Sarah, Courtney and Garrett Putnam, all of Houlton; three great-grandchildren, three godchildren, Heidi Stone Venuti, Diane Tracy Ouellette and Patrick Mailey Towle; and very special friend, Lois Tracy. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dunn Funeral Home. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
