WASHBURN – Shirley E. Sperry, 70, died peacefully Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Portland. She was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Sherman Station, the daughter of Leonard and Thirlia (McLellan) St.Germaine. Shirley was employed as a legal secretary for many years, worked as a bookkeeper for Easler’s Hardware, a reporter for the Bangor Daily News and for Northeast Auto Sales in Caribou and Jim’ Auto Sales in Presque Isle. Shirley attended St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Washburn, was on the library board for the Washburn Public Library and was a member of the Washburn Jaycee Wives Club. She was a Brownie Scout leader for many years. She was a graduate of Husson College in Bangor and later graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Shirley and Richard were married for more than 50 years and enjoyed traveling. Shirley was an avid reader and enjoyed cross-stitch, making many gifts for family and friends. Surviving her is her mother, Thirlia St.Germaine of Patten; her sister, Jeanne Stout and her husband, Raymond, of Bangor; her son, Michael Sperry and his wife, Nancy, of New Gloucester and their two children, Megan and Andrew; her son, Patrick Parker Sperry and his husband, Michael Parker Sperry, of Peabody, Mass. and their children, S/Sgt. Nichole Parker of Valdosta, Ga. and Amanda Parker of Peabody, Mass. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard A. Sperry of Washburn; and her father, Leonard St.Germaine of Patten. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted later in the spring at Crouseville Cemetery, Washburn. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Washburn Public Library, Washburn, ME 04786. Arrangements are in the care of the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
