BREWER – Sophie Wanda Marquis, 85, died April 22, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Bangor, the daughter of Andrew and Frances (Valetka) Pyzynski. Sophie graduated from John Bapst High School. She became the owner and operator of Pyzynski Grocery Store and Beach on Brewer Lake after her parents passed on. Sophie was an active supporter and charter member of TOPPS where she achieved many medals and trophies in the more than 30 years of her involvement. She was a loyal walker at the Brewer Auditorium for many years. Sophie enjoyed being with her husband and snowmobiling on Brewer Lake. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brewer. Sophie loved to sew, embroider and do very fine needle work, crocheting, knitting and enjoyed shopping. Sophie is survived by her loving sister, Cecilia Duddy, and husband, Robert, of Bangor; a close nephew, Donald W. Reed, of Orrington; nephews, Patrick Duddy, and wife, Mary, of Brazil, Robert (Terry) Duddy, and wife, Kathleen, of Falmouth, Michael A. Duddy and wife, Jennifer, of Cape Elizabeth; niece, Christina Duddy Barrett, and husband, Patrick, of South Boston, Mass.; niece, Cecilia Joyce and husband, John, of Portland and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arsene Marquis in 1993. Friends are invited to meet with the family 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, celebrant. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church reception room following the service. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
