CARIBOU – Staff Sergeant Matthew O’Neil Gahagan, 24, died unexpectedly April 30, 2006, in Guam, as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was born April 3, 1982, in Lake Charles, La., the son of Frederick and Kim (St. Peter) Gahagan. Matt was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a 2000 graduate of Caribou High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was currently serving as a munitions storage crew chief in Guam. Surviving in addition to his parents, Fred and Kim Gahagan of Caribou; are his two children, Caleb and Aubrey Gahagan of Mountain Home, Idaho; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Michael and Margaret Bujold of Tulsa, Okla. and Neil and Bennett Gahagan, both of Caribou; his sister, Theresa Gahagan of Caribou; grandparents, Sandy and Evelyn St. Peter of Caribou; his former spouse, Laura (Rueger) Gahagan of Mountain Home Idaho; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Matt was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Frederick and Mona Gahagan. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, May 8, from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, officiating. An Air Force military interment will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
