BLAINE – Stephen D. Broad, 62, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1943, in Mars Hill, the son of Ralph and Grace (Bubar) Broad. Stephen was a graduate of A.C.I. and then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he worked in civil service for many years. Stephen enjoyed traveling and had been to almost all 50 states and several Canadian provinces. He also loved skiing, gardening, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Mars Hill United Methodist Church as well. Surviving him is his wife of 43 years, Sharon (Mersereau) Broad of Blaine; a daughter, Heidi (Broad) Smith of Blaine; three grandsons, Stephen, David and Andrew; two sisters, Anne Turner and her husband, Jon, of Houlton, Barbara McIntosh and her husband, Wayne, of Bath, N.B.; mother-in-law, Bertha Mersereau; brother-in-law, Raymond Mersereau; sister-in-law, Judy Mersereau; nieces, Holly Trafford and her husband, Tom, Andrea Turner, Heather Lipper and her husband, Jens, Janelle McIntosh; nephews, Marc Mersereau and his wife, Janie, Scott Turner and his wife, Jill, Rob and Mark Longhurst, Dwayne McIntosh; great-nieces, Amber Trafford, Anna Grace Lipper; great-nephews, Brandon Trafford Nicholas Mersereau, Samuel Mersereau, Josiah Lipper; and also special friends, James Woollard, Patrick Kelly, Ray Charles Kingsbury. In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by a son, Matthew; a brother, Robert Charles; a sister, Nina “Penny” Longhurst; and his father-in-law, Roy Mersereau. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Tapley Cemetery with the Rev. Beth Ann Black officiating.
