LUBEC – Stephen Trecartin, 62, died April 28, 2006, at a local assisted living center in Machias. He was born Oct. 6, 1944, in Lubec, the son of Hurlburt and Gwendolyn Trecartin. Stephen was educated in South Portland schools. He graduated from the University of Maine in Machias and did graduate work in English at the University of Maine in Orono. He loved American literature, especially author Norman Mailer and was very well read in that field. An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, he enjoyed greatly their recent successes in professional sports. He is survived by two aunts, Ruth Skoog of Calais and Faye Leighton of Lubec; several cousins and a special friend, Norma Leighton of Lubec. At his request there will be no funeral services. A graveside burial will take place 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lubec officiated with the Rev. Edwin Randall. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Machias.
