MILFORD, MILLINOCKET and DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Sunny Starr Thornton, 75, wife of the late Melville “Mel” Thornton, passed away Sept. 4, 2006, at her daughter’s home in South Daytona, Fla. She was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of Malcolm and Vivienne Pickett. Sunny attended school in Millinocket and graduated from Stearns High School in 1949. She also graduated from Somerville hospital’s school of nursing in 1952. She worked for many years as an operating room nurse at the Stinson Hospital, Bangor. In 1955, she married Mel Thornton and they lived and operated various businesses in Maine and Florida. Both Mel and Sunny enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing together. She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Carlos Torrens; son, Thegan and his wife, Tammy; three grandchildren, Jason, Reggie and Emily. She was predeceased by her husband, Mel; her parents, Mack and Bea Pickett. Burial services were private.
