ROCKLAND – Susan Margaret Hanscom, 52, of Rockland, died Wednesday, July 27, at The Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland, where she had resided for several years. Susan was born July 30, 1952, in Rochester, N.H., the daughter of Robert C. and Margaret (Hussey) Hanscom. She was a 1971 graduate of Rockland District High School, and a 1973 graduate of Beal College in Bangor. Susan was a communicant at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild and active in many church activities. She has been employed at Shop ‘n Save in Rockland for many years until 1996. Susan enjoyed making latch-hook rugs and was very proud of her family photographs, often sharing them with her friends. She loved animals and found great comfort in her “animal family” and her collection of feline figurines. Susan was very special and her gentle spirit touched the lives of her many caregivers, family, and friends. Susan’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Merrill and the staff at The Knox Center for Long Term Care for their loving and compassionate care. Surviving is her sister, Barbara Economy and her husband, John, of Winterport; two nephews, Peter Economy and his wife, Kelly, of Hampden, Matthew Economy of Nashville, Tenn.; a great-nephew, Samuel Economy and a great- niece, Sara Economy, both of Hampden; two aunts, Vivian Edwards and her husband, Howard, of Owls Head, Freda Hussey of Wiscasset, and many cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Robert C. Hanscom in 1981; and her mother, Margaret H. Hanscom in 1992. Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at the Laite Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland. Burial will be in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.
