LINCOLN – Thelma Louise Bell, 96, died April 10, 2005, at a Lincoln health care facility. She was born April 25, 1908, in Lincoln, the daughter of Claude H. and Evelyn (Doane) Bryant. Mrs. Bell graduated from Mattanawcook Academy and studied music in Lincoln and Bangor. She was employed at the Lincolnsfield Mill for many years. In 1941, she became active in the American Red Cross, eventually serving as assistant field director at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor. Her duties included directing all recreational and social activities carried on by the Red Cross at the base hospital. At the end of World War II, she returned to Lincoln to again work at the worsted mill as a mender until the mill closed in 1951. At that time, she began her 35 year career as a piano teacher. She was a member of the Lincoln Congregational Church and the Pilgrim Daughters. Mrs. Bell is survived by two daughters, Betty Goodwin and Barbara Potts, both of Lee; eight grandchildren, Vicki Folnsbee, Kenneth McCafferty, Libby Bryant, Ellen Worster, Laura Jayne Potts, Bryant Stephen Potts, Julia Delano and Robert Potts; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Mattawamkeag Cemetery, with the Rev. Darrell joiner officiating.
