ELIOT – Thelma S. Allen, 92, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Salisbury, N.C. Born Dec. 10, 1914, in Bucksport, she was the daughter of Ralph and Frieda Lowell of Dexter. She was a graduate of Dexter High School, Class of 1932. She later attended Maine School of Commerce, now known as Husson College, Bangor, and graduated in 1935. She was employed as a supervisor in IBM at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, N.H., for 30 years before retiring in 1970. She had been a resident of Eliot since 1943 and previously a resident of Dexter. She also had previously been a member of Eastern Star and the Methodist Church of Dexter. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leon C. Shapleigh, in 1988; and by her second husband, Warren H. Allen, in 2003. Surviving family members are her daughter, Linda F. Shapleigh of Salisbury, N.C.; three grandchildren, Vicki L. Holmes of Portage, Mich., Leon D. Shepard of Linden, N.C., and Jeff D. Shepard, U.S. Air Force, currently assigned in Japan; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Frieda “Molly” Rowe of Andover, Mass., and Joyce Mitchell of Hollis, N.H. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Brooks Memorial Park, Eliot, with the Rev. Duane Kellogg officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to your local hospice program. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home.
