EASTON – Thomas O. Ayers, 71, husband of Doris A. Ayers, died Tuesday evening, May 3, 2005, at his Easton residence after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 29, 1933, at Fort Fairfield, the son of Owen E. and Mabel. (Pelkey) Ayers. He attended Fort Fairfield schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Military Policeman. He was self-employed as a carpenter and owned and operated the Northfield General Store, Northfield, Conn., for eight years; and the East Lempster Country Store, known as the “Chatter Box” in East Lempster, N.H., for 13 years. Thomas was married to Doris A. McDonald on Dec. 24, 1970, and was a life member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield, and the American Legion Walter Lovely Post No. 27, Fort Fairfield. Thomas will be remembered as a gentle, loving man and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his friends and family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was predeceased by one brother, Carl Parks; and one sister, Henrietta Goodwin. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Doris A. Ayers of Easton; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Connie Ayers of Port Orange, Fla.; special friends whom Thomas loved as his own children, Debra and Donald Pelkey of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, Canada; and his beloved dog, Devin Mariah; several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mr. Ayers’ wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Estes Park Cemetery, Easton, with the Rev. Mark Hartley officiating. The family of Mr. Ayers would like to thank Dr. Row, Hospice of Aroostook and Ann LaPlante, P.A. for all their wonderful care and support. Those who choose may contribute in memory of Mr. Ayers to any charity or organization benefiting animals. Arrangements are in the care of the Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.
