THURLO A. LORD HERMON – Thurlo Almon Lord, 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, finished life’s journey, May 8, 2004, at his home in Hermon. He was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Hermon, the son of Rita (Furness) Lord and Bradford H. Lord. T.A. attended schools in Hermon, where he made friends that lasted a lifetime. His talents and wry sense of humor will remain a tribute to his life. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1942, and was sent to the South Pacific during World War II. He served three years. T.A. was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. These excursions meant so much to him. His occupation was a plumber. He worked for the U.S. Government Civil Service beginning at Dow Air Force Base and ending at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, Calif. He retired in 1974. He leaves behind his wife, Flora (Tibbetts) Lord. They were married 57 years. His daughter, Golda and her husband Wayne Megargel of Florida; two sons, Ronald and his wife, Pat, of Oklahoma, and Vaughn and his wife, Honey, of Hermon; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alvin of Florida, Clifford and his wife, Sylvia, of Florida, and Bradford F. “Dick” and his wife, Marise, of Florida; one sister, Marguerite Robinson of Hermon; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father and mother; and a brother, Wildon “Bill” Lord. `The family would like to extend special thanks to “his buddies” for their unwavering friendship and support throughout this most difficult time. Visiting hours will be held 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. In accordance with T.A.’s wishes, a graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor and associate pastor the Rev. Cleo Winningham of the Hermon Baptist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union St., Suite 220, Bangor, ME 04401.
