MILLINOCKET – Vaughn Gerald Power, 76, died at a local hospital Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, after a long illness. He was born in Millinocket, Feb. 20, 1927, the son of John Augustin and Madge (Welton) Power. A lifelong resident of Millinocket, Vaughn was a graduate of Stearns High School, Class of 1945. After completion of his high school education, he served for a time in the merchant marine. Following his time with the merchant marine, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the VFW and once served as union president of the Pulp and Sulfite Union. He worked for Great Northern Paper Co. in Millinocket for 42 years, retiring in 1986 as foreman in the woodroom. Vaughn loved his camp at South Twin Lake. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Of all the things Vaughn enjoyed, none surpassed the love he had for his family. He was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Ann (Pineau) Power of Millinocket; two sons, John Power and Thomas Power, both of Millinocket; Sharon and husband, Paul Burtchell, of Biddeford, Debbie and husband, John Porter, of Duluth, Minn.; four grandchildren, Jenny Power, Sam and Ben Burtchell, and Cody Porter; three sisters, Laura and husband, Dr. James O’Brien, of Boca Raton, Fla., Joyce and husband, Norman Mackey, of Curtice, Ohio, and Mildred and husband, Frank Pasquine, of Millinocket; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Patrick Power. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery.
