DOVER-FOXCROFT and SEBEC – Velma L. Johnston, 82, wife of the late Neil C. Johnston, died Jan. 5, 2007, at a local hospital. She was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Tiffin, Ohio, the daughter of Clarence and Faye (Christy) Martin. Prior to her move to Dover-Foxcroft, Velma had been a 50- year resident of Sebec, where she and her husband, Neil, had run a dairy farm. She had retired from Bangor Savings Bank, after 20 years of service. She was a very active member of the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, the Women’s Fellowship, and was an associate member of the Miosac Club. Velma had served as jury officer for Piscataquis County. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Buteau and her husband, Donald, of Bartlett, Tenn., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Goldie Merry. She will be sadly missed by many friends. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, with the Rev. Heather Kurtz officiating. After the service, all are invited to share in fellowship and remembrances at the chapel. Burial will be in the family lot at Sebec Corner Cemetery in the spring.
