HARRINGTON – Vena S. Farren, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, in Saco, with her family by her side. She was born June 11, 1925, in Harrington, the daughter of the late Harry and Eva (Mitchell) Stevens. Vena, known as “Twinnie” in her younger years, was educated in the Harrington school system. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Harrington, as a postal clerk for 25 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Columbia where she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Club. She was very active in the Sunday school program and involved in many church suppers. She and her sister, Verna were well known for their yeast rolls. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Farren enjoyed golfing with her husband and walking with her sister, Verna. She also loved gardening and was well known for her cooking. Her grandchildren remember the little “treats” under their pillows. Vena performed numerous loving acts for others without calling attention to herself. She shared nearly 60 years of marriage with Everard Willey Farren, who died in 2004. Family members include her son, Paul Farren and his wife, Diane, of Scarborough; two grandchildren, P. Russell Farren Jr. of North Carolina and Joseph Everard Farren of Boothbay Harbor; two stepgrandchildren, Justin E. Morgan of Scarborough and Emily K. Morgan of South Portland; a sister, Verna Dowling of Harrington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also left behind many special friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Harry Stevens Jr. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Faith United Methodist Church, Route 1, Columbia, with the Rev. Kim Raikes and the Rev. Dr. Joseph Samai officiating.
