CHERRYFIELD – Verna M. Bayrd, 88, passed away July 22, 2005, at a Narraguagus healthcare facility surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Cherryfield, the daughter of the late Roy E. Farren Sr. and Bertha W. (McDevitt) Farren. Verna worked as a welder in a shipyard during World War II. She also worked for the Cherryfield School Lunch Program for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherryfield. Verna was an avid fisherman with her sister-in-law and best friend, Martha Farren. She also enjoyed blueberrying. Verna is survived by one daughter, Rena (Bayrd) King and husband, Gordon, of Otter Creek; two sons, Charles Bayrd Jr. and Ola of Unionville and Donald Bayrd and wife, Rona, of Milbridge; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Martha Farren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Eva Mayhew. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Charles E. Bayrd Sr. in November of 2004; four sisters, Avis Yeaton, Helen Haycock, Elva Willey, and Shirley Dobbins; one brother, Roy E. Farren Jr.; a grandson, Jeffrey King; and a granddaughter, Jacquelyn King Pelletier. A funeral service for Verna and memorial service for her husband, Charles, will take place 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Cherryfield, with the Rev. Arthur Fairbrother officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Cherryfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cherryfield, P.O.
