NORRIDGEWOCK – Vernon C. Crowe, 62, passed away Nov. 6, 2005, in Norridgewock. He was born Dec. 12, 1942, in Meridan, Conn., the son of Charles W. Crowe and Ida (MacNamara) Crowe. He was educated in Norridgewock schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1960 and he retired in June of 1987, spending 23 1/2 years in the Navy. During his career he was on eight different ships as a boiler technician, he finished his career as a company commander at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois. On Feb. 22, 1971, he married the former Debbie Ashe in Skowhegan. He was a member of the VFW in Norridgewock, a member of the Atlantic Chief Petty Officers Association, member of the International Chief Petty Officers Association, member of the Western Maine Blacksmith Association and a member of the Norridgewock Historical Society. He attended the Canaan Calvary Church in Canaan; he enjoyed blacksmithing, caring for “Daisy” and his horses, an avid reader, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debbie, of Norridgewock; one son, Kevin Crowe and his wife, Karen, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Tisha Crowe of Cortland Manor, N.Y.; one brother, Leonard Crowe and his wife, Penny, of Carmel; one sister, Gail Chase of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Kaycie, Samantha, Nicholas and Gabrielle; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Hanley and Beverly Calden. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Canaan Calvary Church in Canaan an interment will follow service at the Sunset View Cemetery in Norridgewock.
