WELLINGTON – Vernon M. Drake, 82, died March 25, 2004, at a Skowhegan hospital. He was born May 15, 1921, at Kingsbury, a son of Manley C. and Edna R. (Day) Drake. Vernon was a World War II veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He married Mona Trafton on Nov. 2, 1947. She predeceased him April 28, 1991. He had been a woodsman for most of his working life, but retired as a self-employed automobile mechanic. He is survived by his children, Darlene and husband, Vaughn Bussell, of Wellington, Charlene and husband, Robert Rowell, of Cornville, Beverly and Bruce Raymond of Skowhegan, Bonnie and husband, Ron Rockwell, of Cambridge; a son, David and wife, Linda Drake, of Cornville; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no viewing. A graveside funeral and committal service will be held later in the spring at North Road Cemetery, Harmony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department, care of Mr. Roger Ricker, 1 Carle Road, Wellington, ME 04942.
