ST. ALBANS – Victor L. Springer, 87, died July 18, 2006, at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born July 11, 1919, at St. Albans, a son of Wesley and Eva (Stevens) Springer. He served in the U.S. Army engineers in the Pacific theatre during World War II. Victor owned and operated Victor Springer’s Lumber Yard in St. Albans. For more than 50 years, he was a Golden Sheaf member of the Grange, a member and Past Master of Corinthian Lodge AF & AM, district deputy for District 22, and a member of the Anah Shrine, the County Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star, Odd Fellows and the American Legion. Victor also served the town of St. Albans as a selectman, road commissioner and a member of the planning board and budget committee. He was a charter and life member of the St. Albans Fire Department, served on the Crocker Cemetery Association and was a member of the Good Will Heritage Society. Victor was honored in 1998 as the grand marshall of the St. Albans Summerfest Parade. He is survived by four nephews, Laurence, Dale, Don and Dean Springer; three nieces, Hazel and Beatrice Littlefield and Rita Gordon; brother-in-law, Dana Lary and his wife, Brenda, of Bowdoin; and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth in 2000; brother, Delmont; and sister, Eleanor Wing. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 21, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, where a Masonic service will be conducted 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev.
