BAR HARBOR – Virginia Hope (McIntire) Hyten, 82, died July 9, 2008, at Newton & Wellesley Alzheimer Center, Massachusetts. She was the third of five children, and was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Clermont, Fla., the daughter of Miles M. and Lucy (Reed) McIntire. Virginia graduated from Southwest Harbor High School in 1943. Virginia worked at Jordan Pond House as a waitress in the 1940s. Then in the 1950s she worked several summers as the assistant manager. In 1950 she met and married Warren Felton Hyten, an Army captain in Palm Beach, Fla. They had four sons, Blaine Warren, Cloyd Miles, Randall Bruce and Todd Lowell. With her husband being a career U.S. Army officer, they traveled the world and retired in 1971 and moved to Indialantic, Fla. Virginia made each house they lived in a warm and comfortable home for them all. Virginia moved back to Bar Harbor in 1999 and lived on Eagle Lake Road. She spent the end of her life in Hearthstone on Golden Pond, Hopkinton, Mass. Virginia is survived by four sons, Retired Col., U.S. Air Force, Blaine Hyten of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dr. Cloyd Hyten of Corinth, Texas, Todd Hyten of Boston and Randall Hyten of New York City; a brother, Thomas McIntire of Lamoine; five grandchildren, Christie Sundermann, James Hyten and Andrew Hyten, all of The Woodlands, Texas, Rebecca Hyten of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kesley Hyten, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Zielinski, Luke Sundermann and Katlin Johnson, all of The Woodlands, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren F. Hyten, January 1976, who is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. In later years she and her companion, John K. Alton, of Maryland, spent their time traveling together. They built and operated a dessert shop in Tombstone, Ariz. John K. Alton died in 1999. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Interment will be at Center Cemetery, Tremont.
