GLENBURN – Virginia Ruth Simpson, 84, wife of the late Gerald A. Simpson, died Dec. 20, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Bangor, the daughter of Peter J. and Hazel E. (Gibbons) Pelkey. Virginia was a graduate of John Bapst High School, Class of 1939 and Beal College. She had been employed as a bookkeeper/comptroller at the Eastern Maine General Hospital, from 1951-1969, now Eastern Maine Medical Center. Virginia was a communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor, a former member of the church council and an active member of the Bangor Senior Citizens Club. She was an avid beano player and enjoyed being with her special friend, Marion Beaulieu. Surviving are two children, Geraldine “Geri” Staples and her husband, Edmund, of Apopka, Fla., Charles A. Simpson and his wife, Carol, of Glenburn; three grandchildren, Lisa M. Zeisler and her husband, Aaron, of Gray, Gerald A. Simpson II of Glenburn, Todd A. Staples of Apopka, Fla.; four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice and Beatrice; one brother, Clyde. Friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., following the funeral Mass Friday.
