LUBEC – It is with profound sadness that the extended family of Vivian M. Volk announces her death Aug. 18, 2006, after a courageous fight against a rare form of bile duct cancer. She was the beloved Clinical Director at Families United where she dedicated 16 years of her life to children and families. After working as a news reporter in LaSalle, Ill., and completing her under-graduate degree in psychology, Vivian started her profession in social work during the late 1970s. She continued her education at the University of Illinois where she earned her Masters in social work and ultimately became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and achieved the highest distinction of Diplomate in clinical social work from the National Association of Social Workers. Vivian practiced in Illinois, Texas, California, and Oklahoma before settling in Downeast Maine. Throughout her life, she was a volunteer and advisor to numerous boards and councils committed to youth. She is survived by her children and grandchildren in Illinois. Funeral services will be held Aug. 26, at Burgess Funeral Home, LaSalle, Ill. Her devotion to children and families will continue through her extended family – the staff at Families United.
