OLD TOWN – Vivian Pauline Lawrence, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at a local hospital with her family by her side. She was born April 26, 1918, in Old Town, the daughter of Frank and Sara Arsenault Martin. Vivian was one of 13 children. She attended local schools and was a 1936 graduate of Old Town High School. Prior to meeting the love of her life, Vivian worked in the local shoe shops. On April 2, 1949, she married Gerald Lawrence and together they raised four children, while operating the French Island Cleaners on French Island and later the Hillson Cleaners in Orono. “Viv,” as she was known to all, was a faithful communicant of Holy Family Parish; and she could most commonly be found attending the 4 p.m. Mass with her grandson, John. She was a member of the St. Cecelia Daughters of Isabella of Old Town. She is survived by her husband, Gerald of Old Town; two sons, Eugene Moores and his wife, Cecilia, of Milford, Wilfred and his wife, Deborah, of Londonderry N.H.; two daughters, Susan Thomas and her husband, James, of Haysville Kan., and Linda Lawrence-Parrick and her husband, Darrell, of Milford; eight grandchildren, Candace Parent, Collette Fenlason, Cathy Pauley, Carol Hladik, Aaron Fenlason, Alan Fenlason, Sally Moores, and John Lawrence-Parrick; 12 great-grand-children; brothers-in-law, Frederick “Smokey” Lawrence of Bangor, Douglas Lawrence of Attleboro, Mass., and Kenneth White of Freeport; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Clark of Pittsburgh Pa., Mary Ellen Baldwin of Chicago, Shirley Neal of California, Melanie Emerson of Bradley, and Norma Robertson of Eddington. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, especially Jim, George, Leo, Beverly and Pam, along with several cousins. She was predeceased by five brothers, Francis, Earl, Harold, George and Eugene Martin; seven sisters, Sylvia Martin, Thelma Martin, Dorothy Michaud, Lillian Tauer, Lorraine Gillis, Florence Foster, and Margaret LaPlante. Visiting hours will be held 3-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. The Daughter’s of Isabella will be reciting the rosary at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Holy Family Parish, 429 Main St., Old Town, with the Rev. Bill Labbe, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Old Town. After the funeral, all are invited to the parish hall for a reception for continued fellowship.
