OLD TOWN – Waldena H. Pond Sr., 82, has gone home to be with the Lord and his late wife, Irene, March 12, 2006, at Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor surrounded by his family. He was born July 10, 1923, in Old Town, a son of Stanley and Hazel (Morse) Pond. He was a World War II veteran. He was employed by James River Corp. for 37 years retiring in 1985 and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was an avid walker, walking five miles every day. He enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and NASCAR. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Soucie and Paula Pond, both of Old Town; two sons, Waldena Pond Jr. and his wife, Nettie, of Levant, Gordon Pond and his wife, Denise, of Hermon; nine grandchildren, Kelly Soucie of Old Town, David Soucie and his wife, Karen, of Bradley, Heidi Morris and her husband, Roger, of Brewer, Heather Witham and her husband, Andy, of Carmel, Desiree Pond and her fiance, Adam, of Levant and Josh Pond of Hermon, Andrew White of Old Town, Toby Pond of Old Town; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Sierra, Dilan, Jordan, Desmond and Cassandra; two sisters, Rita Quinn of Milford, Marlene Scholl of Sanford; and a brother, Durwood Pond of New Jersey. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Maine Veterans’ Home “B Unit” in Bangor and a special thank you to Linda Gangnon. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Parish with the Rev. Bill Labbe, celebrant. Interment will be private at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. A luncheon will be served in the Holy Family Parish Center immediately following the service.
