AUGUSTA – Walker D. Cooper, 73, of Augusta, died Tuesday July 27, 2004, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Augusta, the son of Delmont L. and Myrtle (Walker) Cooper. He grew up in Brunswick and graduated from Maine Central Institute. Walker joined the Air Force and served from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. He was stationed at Tague Air Force Base. When he returned to the U.S. he met his wife, Laurie and they were married in 1954. Mr. Cooper was employed as a manager at Central Maine Power for 36 years. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts, Church, school and sporting events. He was an avid golfer and was the club champion at several courses around Maine. He was also a great basketball and lacrosse fan. Walker is survived by his wife of 50 years, Laurie Cooper; four sons, Mike Cooper and his wife, Lynn, of Carmel, Bruce Cooper and his wife, Maureen, of Chelsea, Kirk Cooper and his wife, Michelle, of Augusta and Gregg Cooper and his wife, Lee, of Manlius, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Shawn, Erica, Kaylee, Cassandra, Cameron, Ryan, Wade, Jake, Max, Quinn, Walker and Mandy Cooper. A graveside service will be held 9 a.m. Friday, at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.
