BAILEYVILLE – Wallace “Wuzzy” Bacon, 85, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 15, 2004, at his home in Baileyville surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 8, 1919, a son of James and Carrie (Yates) Bacon. He attended Woodland schools and Woodland High School. Mr. Bacon joined the C.C.C. in 1936 and worked in Wyoming. He was a fireman at the Georgia Pacific Mill in Baileyville for 42 years. He was a charter member of the Spednic Club, a member of the Quarter Century Club at Georgia Pacific, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He had spent much time exploring the Allagash region and hand-built Grand Lake Canoes. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Hartford in 1981. Surviving are three daughters, Patricia D. Stawarz of Baileyville, Karen A. Bacon of Kittery, and Cheryl L. Bean of Baileyville; six grandchildren, Tara Carter, John Peterson, Eric Bacon, Nara Newell, Jesse Bean, and Jennifer Wynter; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He acted as a second father to his nephew, Alden Bacon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville. Contributions may be made to the Down East Hospice, RR 1, Box 11, Machias, ME 04654.
