CALAIS – Stella B. Bass, 88, formerly of Baileyville, passed away Nov. 27, 2004, at Calais Regional Hospital. Stella was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Danforth, a daughter of the late Ansel and Alice (Scott) Russell. She attended local school and then went on to owning her own restaurant. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Bass in 1979. Also predeceased her were her parents, two sisters, a brother and a great-grandson, Gordie Corbett. Surviving Stella are her two daughters, Sherill Meserve of Baileyville and Maxine Rideout and husband, Roy, of Fredericton, N.B.; two grandchildren, Robert Meserve of Baileyville and Rocky Meserve of Calais; four great-grandchildren, Amber Meserve of Florida, Matthew Meserve of Ellsworth, Samantha Meserve of Calais, Rocky Meserve II of Calais; two stepgrandchildren, Chelsea and Bradley Mahar of Calais; two nieces and four nephews; her three special care attendants, Cleo Seavey, Denise Thistlewood and Barbara Townsend; and many other supportive friends. Stella always enjoyed her grandchildren and had a great love for them, as well as her friends and neighbors. She loved all animals, her other great joys in life were to cook, play cards, go to Bingo and she loved yard sales, she never missed one. She also enjoyed antiques. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville, with Pastor Rolfe Flood as officiant.
