CANAAN – Walter A. “Pete” Bowden, 79, passed away Thursday March 23, 2006, at home. He was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Stockton Springs the son of Granville B. and May (Quimby) Bowden, who predeceased him. He attended schools in Sandy Point and Stockton Springs. He served in U.S. Navy in England during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and European African Middle Eastern Area Medal. Walter enjoyed candlepin bowling, fishing, hunting, and was an avid cribbage player, playing in many area tournaments. Walter was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 4298 in Dexter, most recently holding the office of Jr. Vice-Commander. He held many other offices, including Commander twice. He was also a member of Ripley Grange, former member of Military Order of Cooties and a member of the American Legion and also a member of D.A.V. Walter is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annie M. Bowden of Canaan; three sons, Nelson and his companion, Linda, of Canaan, David and his wife, Lois, of Hartland, Walt and his wife, Judy, of Newport; three daughters, Louise Greenier of Canaan, Eva “Fay” Sisco, of Canaan and Bonnie and her husband, John Moshier, of Clinton; a sister, Jennie Seekins and her husband, Warren Chatto, of Hampden; two brothers, Earl Bowden of Stockton Springs, and Granville and his wife, Betty, of Sanford, Fla. He is also survived by many grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, special neighbors, Dave and Maureen Calder. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Canaan Calvary Church, Route 2, Canaan. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Canaan.
