PITTSFIELD – Wanda Althea Wright (Fernald) passed away early Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Gray Birch Center, Augusta, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Wanda was born Jan. 19, 1948, daughter of Leona D. Foote (Bagley) and Albert Fernald. Wanda was a graduate of MCI, Class of 1966. During Wanda’s six-year battle with illness, her insurmountable desire to work in her flower gardens and craft projects will surely contribute to how she will be remembered. Even in her final weeks, her determination to get outdoors and attend to getting those flower beds cleaned out was on a list of to-dos once the snow was gone. She made sure not to miss too many laps of the Bristol race, March 16, as she had been a committed NASCAR fan of Matt Kenseth “Matt-man.” She attended several races at Loudon (N.H.) Speedway. The family would like to express their appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all of the friends, neighbors and previous co-workers at CM Almy, who cared so much and spent time with her during her long illness. Wanda is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Melanson of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Deborah Brown of Clinton, Conn.; and her brother, Anthony Melanson of Clinton, Conn. Wanda leaves two children, Lisa Irish of Pittsfield and Christopher Fernald of Norwich, Conn. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Christopher John, age 21 and Thomas Christopher, age 6. A special mention to a life-long, dear friend, Pauline Hanson of Millinocket, who she absolutely adored. There will be a memorial service held 2 p.m. May 25 at Palmyra Village Cemetery.
