STETSON – Wayne C. Merrill, 67, died Sept. 13, 2007, at his Merrill Road residence, after a long illness. Wayne was born Dec. 4, 1939, and died on the Merrill Road farm that he dearly loved. He was the son of Lewis and Christina (Goodwin) Merrill. He was educated in Stetson schools and a graduate of Brewer High School. He attended the University of Maine in Orono for several years. He was married to Diane Tompkins Merrill, May 1, 1971. Wayne was a self-employed farmer and woodsman, working the family farm that was his greatest joy. He loved the outdoors, especially while hunting, fishing and watching the wildlife. His parents, Lewis and Christina, predeceased him. He is survived his son and his wife, Leslie and Amy Merrill of Stetson; two grandchildren, Sarah and Timothy Merrill, both of Stetson; five sisters, Joan Merrill of Stetson, Ann Drew of South Berwick, Cheryl Pelkey of Dallas, Ga., Marilyn Merrill of Brewer and Linda Wescott of Hermon; one brother, Neil Merrill of Corinth; several nieces, cousins and friends, including close friends, Don and Carl Abbott, Judy and Lee Mugford, and Bonnie and Cecil Scott. Memorial services to celebrate the life of Wayne will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at New Stetson Union Church, 1059 Mullen Road, Stetson.
