NEWPORT – Wayne F. Steward, 65, died unexpectedly Sept. 18, 2007, at a Bangor hospital, after a work related accident in Madison earlier in the day. He was born in 1942, in Skowhegan, the son of Donald H. and Charlene (Pierpont) Steward. He was educated in Skowhegan schools. Wayne worked for many years at shoe shops in Skowhegan and Pittsfield. At the time of his death, he was employed in Madison as a traffic flagger for Malley Flagging and Security Co. He was a member of the Maine Harness Racing Association. He loved to fish, play cards, and follow the horses at the state fairs. He is survived by one son and his wife, Chad and Michelle Steward of Athens; two daughters, Denise Thompson and her companion, Andy Beaulieu, of West Gardner, and Darcy Steward and her fianc?, Al Surette, of Skowhegan; five brothers, David Steward of Jacksonville, Fla., Donald “Bing” Steward of Skowhegan, Bruce Steward of Davies, Fla., Danny Steward of Skowhegan and Scott Steward of Skowhegan; five sisters, Betty McKinley of Skowhegan, Pam Beane of Norridgewock, Sharon Wentworth of Skowhegan, Bonnie Wentworth of Skowhegan and Gail Perry of Cornville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents; and a brother, Jimmy, predeceased him. His longtime companion, Doreen Curtis, predeceased him April 7, 2006. He will be remembered by her children, George Curtis, Fred Curtis, Kenneth Curtis and Rita Curtis. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Sept 23, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, where a funeral will take place 2 p.m. with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
