NEWBURGH – Wayne Robert Young, 57, loving husband of Collette R. (Dickey) Young, died of cancer, Oct. 2, 2006, at his home. He was born March 27, 1949, in Bangor, the son of Robert and Zelma (Ward) Young. Wayne graduated in 1967 from Hampden Academy. Wayne and Collette married Aug. 15, 1969. Wayne served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 on the USS Rigel stationed in Norfolk, Va. Their daughter, Denise Marie, was born in 1970. They welcomed their son, Chad Wayne, in 1973. Wayne did many jobs from driving skidder to building bridges before he opened his own business, Young’s Custom Cutting in 1979. He operated his business until March of this year when he closed because of health reasons. He also built many camps in the Moosehead Region. With lots of friends, Wayne and Collette started the Newburgh Countryside Riders Snowmobile Club in 1976. Wayne dragged trails and was trail boss for many years. He enjoyed looking for moose antlers and then carving them. Wayne was a real outdoors person who liked to ride ATVs, fly fish, snowmobile and hunt. He especially liked partridge and turkey hunting. Wayne was predeceased by his son, Chad July 4, 1990; and his in-laws, Elihu and Elinor (Gram) Dickey. In addition to his wife of 37 years, Collette, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Denise Thomas and her husband, Benjamin; a special granddaughter, Marie Anne Miller; grandson, Alexander Thomas of Blanchard; his father and mother, Robert and Zelma Young of Newburgh; his sister, Cindy Corbett and her husband, Michael, of Brewer; his wife’s sister and brothers, Joette and Winston Marks of Benton, Bradley and Jody Dickey of Hampden, Brent and Cindy Dickey of Madison; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. At Wayne’s request, please dress casually. If you have a special memory you would like to share with the family, please write it down and bring it with you. A private funeral service will be held Saturday.
