WELFORD ‘WILL’ T. SPENCER JR. BREWER – Welford “Will” T. Spencer Jr., 68, beloved husband of Hella Spencer, died peacefully Dec. 16, 2007, at home. He was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Old Town, the son of Welford T. and Gertrude Spencer Sr. Will grew up in Orono, playing along the banks of the Penobscot River. He attended schools there and worked doing odd jobs for Pat Farnsworth. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Panama and Limestone. He made a career in the textile industry and later became a much loved bus driver for Dedham and Holden schools, until his retirement. Will was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He was known for grooming snowmobile trails and working tirelessly raising funds for the Pine Tree Camp for Children and Children’s Miracle Network. Surviving are his wife, Hella, with whom he shared many wonderful years; five children, Donna, Karen, Scott, Chris and Tim and his wife, Danielle; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl and George; a sister, Barbara; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his newest grand-child, Abigail, added much joy to his life. He will be missed by his pets. Special thanks to pastor Elaine and the Redeemer community for their love and support during his illness. Also to Drs. Sabbagh and Shankar, the nurses on Grant 6 and Hospice of St. Joseph for their care. Services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Essex Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Elaine Hewes, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the church after the service. Spring interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
