BELFAST – Wilbur E. Waterman, 80, passed away June 19, 2006, at Tall Pines Health Care after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born April 15, 1926, in Montville, the son of Russell and Lucie Waterman. He graduated from Freedom Academy. He served in the U.S. Navy, a division of the Seabees. He was employed at Penobscot Poultry for 28 years. He was truck driver and for a time was foreman of the garage, was a past commander of Northport VFW 6131 and a life member of the United Methodist Church. He also was a crossing guard for eight years at the Miller and Congress Street corner. He was known for his smile and a wave of his hand to everyone. Wilbur also enjoyed woodworking. He was predeceased by his sister, Sarah Choate of Montville. Wilbur leaves his loving wife of 56 years, Leona; two daughters, Elizabeth Doyle of Camden, Lucille Griffin and husband, Dale, of Rockport; four grandchildren, Sarah Doyle of Rockland, Jessica Rackcliff of Rockland, Charles Griffin of Union and Christopher Griffin of Portland; a special aunt, Kathlene Dodge of Braintree, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Leatrice Burns of Union; several cousins, seven great-grandchildren. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Searsmont.
