FREEDOM and BANGOR – William A. Hill passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at his home. He was born April 15, 1937, in Bangor, the son of Charlie and Rena (Ross) Hill. Bill proudly graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1955 and Maine Maritime Academy in 1960. Bill sailed aboard oil tankers as an engineer for American Trading for eight years; thereafter settling in Fairfield and working at Scott Paper Co., Winslow, until his retirement. He enjoyed coaching football in the ’60s and ’70s for the Fairfield Police Athletic League and again for the Mount View Football Club, in recent years. Bill also officiated football and basketball from 1968 to 1992. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bill loved spending time with his family and friends; and especially being “Pop” to his grandchildren. Bill will be sadly missed by his loving partner of nine years, Valerie Thomas of Freedom; her sons, Thomas, Joel and Isaiah Humphrey and his wife, Aubrey and their daughter, Macaela; his sons, William of Benton and his children, Nicole and Caleb, Douglas of Waterville and his wife, Andrea and their daughter, Katie, Troy of Fairfield and his wife, Kathleen and their children, Jarrett, Brandon, Josie and a new baby in May; his sister, Wava Bosworth of Florida; brothers, Charlie and his wife, Mary, of Michigan, James of Florida and Bruce and his wife, Paula, of Newport; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Constance. A memorial gathering in celebration of Bill’s life will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Brookings-Smith, Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
