BRADLEY – William Calvin Smith, 44, passed away March 27, 2007. He was born May 22, 1962, in Bangor, the son of Calvin and A. Marlene (French) Smith. Bill graduated from Orono High School, Class of 1980. After his family, Bill’s greatest love was bluegrass music. As a gifted multi-instrumentalist, he played the banjo, first in Bluegrass Supply Co. and most recently in the band North Star with his wife, brother; and friends, Ted DeMille and Bob St.Pierre. Bill was also an accomplished finish carpenter and he searched far and wide for old hand tools to use on his handcrafted projects. He was a registered Maine guide and he never asked for directions. Bill loved spending time at the family camps; and he will be remembered by his niece and nephews for the great times that they had fishing with him. He found great joy in sharing his knowledge of music, carpentry, fly-fishing and fly-tying with others. He was predeceased by his mother; grandparents, William and Evelyn French and John and Tylie Smith. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Lori (Hannigan) Smith; three children that he was very proud of, Eben W. Smith, Erin A. Smith and Emily A. Smith; father, Calvin Smith and his wife, Darrellyn; sister, Angela Leigh and her husband, Fred; brother, Don Smith and his wife, Diane; niece and nephews, Iann Leigh and Noah, Mari and Eli Smith. He will also be missed by his close friend, Mervin Littlefield, and the many special friends he got to know through his music and outdoor experiences over the years. Visiting hours will be held 3-6 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a memorial service will begin 6 p.m. Family and friends are invited to bring your musical instruments to a reception 6:30-10 p.m. Friday at the Elk’s Club, 37 Fourth St., Old Town.
