EDDINGTON – William E. Tate Sr., 73, beloved husband of Charlotte A. (Martin) Tate, died unexpectedly June 18, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Orono, the son of Edwin A. and Cora M. (Dean) Tate. Ed, as he was known, graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Orono, in 1953 and was a graduate of Husson College. He served two years with the U.S. Army from ’57 to ’59 and worked as a certified public accountant with Tate – Fitch for many years in the Bangor area, where he was a partner and retired in 2001. Ed was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brewer, for many years and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brewer, where he enjoyed spending afternoons playing pool and will be sadly missed by his fellow members. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and times spent with his family at camp on Chemo Pond. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 50 years of Eddington, are three children, William E. Tate Jr. and his wife, Stacy, currently of McKinny, Texas, Karen L. Osborne and her husband, Jeff, of Winterport, and Kristine L. Chapman and her husband, Dale, of Eddington; five grandchildren, Emily and Will Tate, Meghan Osborne, Kasey and Jacob Chapman; one sister, Theresa Ann Rentz and her husband, Dick, of Florida; cousins, Robert Day, Dick and Billy Dean and Mary Geiser; as well as several special nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his grandson, Matthew Osborne, in December 2007. Family and friends may visit 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, celebrant. Burial will be at Jonathan Eddy Cemetery, Eddington and family and friends will gather afterwards at the Chapman’s home, Fox Lane, Eddington. Condolences may be offered at www.kileyandfoley.com.
