LEE – William G. MacLaughlin Sr., 98, passed away April 30, 2008, at Care Ridge Estates, Lee. He was born May 16, 1909, in Dexter, the son of Frank McLaughlin, MD and Edna (Grinnell) McLaughlin. William graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked for many years as a laboratory technician at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Prescott, Ariz., White River Junction, Vt., and at East Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. Earlier in his life he worked as a civil engineer, owned and operated a poultry farm and a dairy farm. He enjoyed traveling, read widely, fished and was an avid gardener. He was predeceased by his wife, D. Louise (Jamison) MacLaughlin; and one sister, Pauline Stewart. He is survived by his sons, William MacLaughlin Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Ellsworth, and David MacLaughlin and his wife, Sally, of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Dean of Mariaville, Eric and his wife, Wendy, of Ellsworth, and Christine (MacLaughlin) Walker and her husband, Wesley, of Melbourne, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Nicole MacLaughlin of Mariaville, and Troy MacLaughlin of Ellsworth. Special thanks to the ladies at Care Ridge Estates who had provided excellent care and a loving home for Mac these past two years. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Those who wish may donate to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Mac.
