PORTLAND – William Hoyt Turbeville CM SGT, retired, 78, of Groveside Road, died Sept. 11, 2004, at Springbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westbrook. He was born in Columbia, S.C., a son of William J. and Susan Hoyt Turbeville. Mr. Turbeville attended school in West Columbia, S.C. He later joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served in three wars including World War II, Korean War and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1970 after 27 1/2 years of service. He then worked in Civil Service until he retired in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Portland. He was predeceased by, a brother, Frank Turbeville. He is survived by, his wife, Rowena Shorey Turbeville of Portland; two sisters, Winifred Pike of Naples, Fla. Susan Nesley of Columbia, S.C.; special stepdaughter, Norma Stefanik and her husband, Paul, of Glastonbury, Conn.; two special step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Meyers of Newington, Conn.; Debra Lesmeister and her husband, Timothy, of Rochester, Minn.; four estranged children, Evie McNutt, Rohn, Jamie and Lewis Turbeville of Fort Worth, Texas area. Visiting hours will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, ME. Family will gather at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday before a Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Portland. A committal service with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Caribou.
