WELLINGTON – William J. Emhoff, 80, of Wellington passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Stafford Springs, Conn., the son of John and Mary (Tadler) Emhoff. He was married to the former Florence Hathaway Oct. 2, 1948, in St. Edwards Church, Stafford Springs, Conn. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy. Bill was a salesman working out of his garage in Stafford Springs, Conn., selling Firestone Tires. For 12 years, he served as selectman for the Town of Wellington, he also served as town chair for the Democratic Party in Wellington; he was a volunteer fireman and treasurer for 20 years; he was a member of the American Legion, Post 0119 in Guilford, a member of Disabled Veterans Post 1 in Augusta, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Dexter. He enjoyed gardening, basket making, hunting, fishing, and going to the Harmony Fair. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Florence Emhoff of Wellington; a son, William R. Emhoff and wife, Doreen, of York; a daughter-in-law, Diane Violette of Somers, Conn.; grandchildren, Jessica, Robert K. and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Kaylee; three brothers, Lawrence, James and Henry; one sister, Barbara; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert; three brothers and a sister. Visiting hours will be held at 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held at a later date at St. Edwards Church in Stafford Springs, Conn. Donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department, care of Merrill Trafton, 9 Parkman Rd., Harmony, ME 04942. Arrangements are under the direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
